whenever i post photographers i always remember how i used to search and stumble upon random ones in grade 10 and 11. i would keep their photos in a folder and use them as msn display pictures or desktop backgrounds. i wish i had saved the names or links, some were really good. posting photographers here is such a good way to keep track of inspiration.

russell young

i just came across these prints by british photographer and painter, russell young. his celebrity photographs from the late 60's and early 70's are great but his paintings, which he didn't release until 2003, are even better. the warhol influence is obvious but i think the realness of the photos keeps the prints from looking too imitated. he also has a great mug-shot series with icons like elvis, david bowie and jim morrisson. he first showed them as "pig portraits", so good. i also love that he includes more recent photographs along with the older ones (like moss and doherty). check it all out on his site here.


the last is my favourite one of all of his. bianca jagger is amazing.
